St. Clotilda, Queen of the Franks
Born in 474 AD, Clotilda was the younger daughter of the king of Burgundy. After she married Clovis, the pagan king of the Franks, she began giving to the poor and tending to the needy. A devout Christian, Clotilda convinced Clovis to convert to her faith, ensuring France would be a Catholic nation. After a lifetime of catastrophes, she was granted sainthood by her beloved church a few years after her death. She was an amazing woman living in a difficult time.
Muhammad’s Cousin
Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 AD, known there as the Year of the Elephant, and was orphaned as a boy. The Arabia he grew up in was entrenched in the Bedouin culture of vengeance and blood feuds.
Raised by his grandfather, one of the most prominent statesmen of his time, Muhammad was shown much love and kindness. He grew into a caring, gentle man who wanted to show his people a better way of life.
Muhammad was poor, having been born into a large family of merchants. In contrast, his cousin Khalid was wealthy and privileged. They grew up as friends, and this novel tells the story of the romance and adventure that made up their lives.

Why I Write: A Message from Anny
“I love history. I love reading. After a lifetime of reading novels, biographies, history, etc., I thought it would be a great challenge for me to try writing a historical novel myself. After having written just a hundred pages, I was thrilled with the process of writing itself. To take my research, my rough sketch of a timeline, and my notes and put them all together into a cohesive story is like making a giant jigsaw puzzle out of words.”
